E-Safety

Safety and Cyber Smart Awareness

The internet and ICT are very significant factors in many people’s lives these days, especially with children. Things like online shopping, email, Facebook and entertainment have made the world “smaller” with events anywhere in the world accessible immediately in real time. New educational and social opportunities arise daily, giving young people access to a wealth of information and experiences. The National Curriculum mandates the teaching of these new technologies in order that our children have the necessary ICT skills to cope with tomorrow’s job market. This can sometimes mean parents and other adults get left behind.

Although young people may appear very ICT savvy, parents and carers are the wisest when it comes to teaching them safety and guidance in life—and the internet is no different. Children need guidance and safety to ensure they become sensible, safe and discerning digital citizens when they’re older. As you would protect your child in the real world such as crossing the street safely or not getting into a stranger’s car, you would want to make sure their online safety skills are skills for life.

So, what can you do to protect your child online?

To get started, below are series of links to various websites that give a wealth of ICT and E-Safety information for the whole family to work through together. There are fun educational games, videos and activities for everyone to enjoy.

If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact your class teacher or the ICT Manager by emailing admin@newnorthcommunity.com
