We are thrilled to have been given 4 Green Hero Awards 2009 by Islington's Sustainable Schools initiative. Congratulations to The Green Team, Chris Mooney (Sustainability/Environmental Co-ordinator), Dianne Smith (Support Staff) and Alan Hutchings (Premises Manager) who have all been commended on their dedication and passion to green issues in school. Well done for being nominated as a positive role model who motivates others to consider and care for the environment. In addition, we've been given a Silver Gilt Award from Islington in Bloom in recognition of the standard achieved at New North.
We are also very proud of the many other awards we have won as a school and as individuals, including 'Distinction' in the London Schools Environment Award 2008 for our Apple Orchard and Sensroy Herb Garden and winners of the Islington 2007 Trees Please Me! poster competition. We have a National Teaching Award recipient, Nicole Neocleous, in Diamond class and have also just been awarded our second Investor in People Award.
We are incredibly proud to have recently been awarded the prestigious ICT Mark - the first school in Islington to receive this recognition. The ICT Mark, awarded by BECTA, can only be achieved once a school has reached the threshold for use and understanding of ICT across the curriculum among both staff and pupils. In awarding the mark, the assessor commented that 'The very broad range of cross curricular projetss is exceptional and a model of good practice for other schools.'
New North has also been awarded National Healthy Schools status.
